Calculator description field

Postby cfxm » Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:30 pm

Hi,
I don't like predefined lists.
I want to enter my machines' names manually. Is this possible?

Possible? Currently not, but I can do.
However, if I create a text box to enter calculators and remove the existing system, all users must reenter the calculators (again).

It is better to hear other users before taking a decision.

As far as I am concerned...I vote "no"! (@cfxm: sorry)
Moreover, I like a consistent vocabulary. The system as it is fits my needs.
I'll be back!

Hey helder7,
Could you give me administrator privileges, so I can kick Simon?

Thank you in advance.

I think he can auto-unkick the account because he is moderator

Anyway might be good idea in the future have more admins like other calc sites. :P Having a larger team will bring more quality to the site. Also sometimes I can be busy to "fight" with the robots/spammers (they are very fast :o ).

Casio fx-9860 GII SD Power Graphic 2 = fx9860GII SH4
if I rename it to Casio fx-9860 GII SD Power Graphic 2 (SH4) the name will be giant :P but i should do it, because it is now often called "SH4"

I have not given my opinion.

Calculator description field: Show
Advantages
-More customizable (Users can for example put the os version)
-Is possible add calculators from other manufacturers (but this is a casio site :? ) or unlisted very old casio models

Disadvantages
-Spammers can put spam (yes, they put spam :o ) in textarea intended to calculators
-It is necessary to constantly(sometimes) check the field to combat spammers
-New Users can place a generic name like "Classpad" or "Prizm" instead of the specific model
-Users take more time to write the name/model of the calc
-There will not be uniformity
-All currently registered users will have to reenter again calculators

current system: Show
Advantages
-It is more user friendly (for new users)
-It is free from spammers, so I do not waste time checking spammers :D
-The selection is quick, UNIFORM and includes most models casio
-In the future I can create some "pixel art" of each of the models and replace the text with images

Disadvantages
-Users cannot add non-listed models or write the calculator OS version

By the comparison that I made above I think the site will lose quality if it adapt a textarea for the calculator description field.

My next priority (on the site) will be disable the bbcode parsing in downloads short description.
Then I'll take a look here.
