Classpad variables: "Var" keyboard vs "abc" keyboard
This caused me some confusion, so I figured I would make a note of it in hope that it might help some other classpad noob.
It seems like x from the "Var" keyboard and x from the "abc" keyboard are the SAME variable. For example, when evaluate x I get x and when I evaluate x*x I get x^2. The difference seems to be that things entered from the "Var" keyboard are detected as "single letter variables" -- for example xx evaluates to x^2 while xx evaluates to a two character variable called "xx". So far so good.
One thing I didn't expect was that the parentheses rule on page 43 of the manual would be overridden. i.e. y(x) is different from y(x)!! The first is x*y but the second is a function called y evaluated at x!!!
This is important when you are working with derivatives and differential equations. For example,
diff(y(x),x) means something very different than diff(y(x),x)!
